    hi paulo

they look very good.can you tell me what are the parameters that you use to judge the quality. i have a peculiar problem. I live by the mantra that Less is More but have a high content site http://www.findnearyou.com where i am struggling to simplify the UI but at the same time provide the least number of clicks to the desired results.

check out and gimme ur two pennies also if u have the time

    thanks

    Hi Ram,

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Actually I don’t follow any strict rules to choose these sites, I usually choose the ones that makes me feel good, that are user-friendly and have stunning visual design. However, you made me think if there is any hidden unconscious parameter I use and I concluded that they always have got not more than 3 main colors and slight variations of these colors.

I took a look at your site, as you said it has got a lot of content. I personally would avoid unnecessary clicks switching the tree layout in the left sidebar to a “on mouse over menu” without long hierarchies. You can try to use the “most recent”, “most rated” or “most viewed” tags to filter the content inside the topics. You should try to improve your rounded corners too.

It seems you use tables for layout, try to use xhtml and css for layout without tables and you will gain a lot of flexibility. If you need a good JS toolkit to get the things done, I suggest Dojotoolkit or Jquery.

Follow your mantra and everything will be fine! :)

Glad you liked our list! Don’t hesitate to suggest us anything you want!
    Happy New Year!

    Hi Paul

Thanks a lot for the inputs. we have revamped our site now and have added some interesting new twists to traditional search. Its kind of bare and lacking the design completeness and i am working on it but your inputs would be great. we also have a platform for community to contribute based on location called http://www.areapal.com Your suggestions are always welcome

Hi Ram, the new design of findnearyou.com is awesome. I love it! Nothing to suggest. :)

About the areapal.com, I only think that the front page should include a tagline explaining the purpose of the site.

      Thanks for your feedback!
